Champagne Reception at Castle Leslie for Glaslough Fête Roses

Glaslough_Rose_01This weekend sees the much anticipated Summer Fête take place in the beautiful north Monaghan village of Glaslough.  And as the organisers were busy behind the scenes with the final preparations, the Glaslough Roses were being unveiled at a spectacular champagne reception in the gardens at Castle Leslie.

Nineteen gorgeous Roses, each representing local businesses in and around Glaslough, gathered for a glamorous photo-shoot with Glaslough Studio and Gallery photographer David Lester.  More images can be seen from the evening on www.emyvale.net.

The fête will be held on Sunday 31 July, preceded by a Bingo Night on Saturday 30 July in the Oakland Centre from 8pm.  A fantastic day of events has been arranged and visitors will find something to do for all the family.  The day starts early with a Car Boot Sale in the centre of the village from 10am until noon, so do pop along and see if you can pick up a bargain or two.

A fancy dress parade will kick off the main fête from the Station Gate at 12.30pm.  Children are invited to come in their favourite fancy dress and join the Glaslough Roses in the parade, with accompanying music to be provided by a special guest star.  The Roses will have the unenviable task of judging the best fancy dress costume – a role that will give them some insight into the difficulties to be faced that evening when the contest to find the Queen of the Fête is judged.

Highlights of the day will include a children’s athletics competition between 2pm – 4pm; live music from 3pm – 5pm, including a talent contest for those brave enough to show if they’ve got a bit of the X-Factor in them; and a Dog Show from 4pm – 5pm.  If you’d like to enter your canine friend in the dog show, there will be categories for small dogs and large dogs.  Please bring your pet along early so you can register your entry by no later than 3.30pm.Glaslough_Rose_02
Throughout the day there will be refreshments available, as well as plenty of fun events, including face-painting, carousel, bouncy castle, cow-milking and pet farm, an iron-man contest, an array of spot prizes and a lucky baby competition, as well as much more.  A raffle will be held with prizes donated by local businesses, including a wonderful kayak trip for four with instructor Dave Thom, a family portrait shoot at Glaslough Studio & Gallery, and a gift from Way Of Life.

The day will be capped off with a gala dance in the Oakland Centre.  As well as featuring live entertainment and refreshments, the dance will see one of the gorgeous Glaslough Roses assume the coveted title of Queen of the Fête.  It promises to be a truly great day.Glaslough_Rose_05Glaslough_Rose_03
