Double Tragedy Near Castleblayney

Over the weekend the community around Castleblayney woke to the news of the tragic death of two young men .  A young man was knocked down and killed while walking on the Ballybay Castleblayney rd outside Doohamlet .

The Garda Ombudsman was called to Co Monaghan yesterday after the  crash .

The Garda investigation followed reports that the car which knocked down and killed Michael  Murphy, Cois Locha, Doohamlet, was being pursued at the time by a Garda vehicle.

The driver, who also lives in the area, was being treated last night at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

The body of a young man in his early 20s was discovered early yesterday inside a van which was submerged in Lough Muckno, a few miles from Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.

Gardaí are investigating how the the vehicle went into the water from a roadway near the lake.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as a single local man from the Castleblayney area.
