Monaghan / Cavan ‘Up4It’ project
Monaghan Sports Partnership is supporting a new project being developed for Monaghan and Cavan called ‘Up4It –Healthy Families’. The project will provide two multi-component programmes that have been developed by Health Professionals with expertise in Nutrition/Dietetics, Physical Activity, Psychology and Wellbeing. The prevention programme targets parents with children aged O-5yrs. The management programme targets parents with overweight children aged 8-11years of age. Both programmes aim to support families in making healthier lifestyle choices so as to avoid/reduce the incidence of long term chronic diseases i.e. obesity, diabetes and heart disease in our children’s future.  The programmes will be delivered in four areas within counties Cavan and Monaghan.
The project will be officially launched and supported by a two day Inter-Agency Cross Border Health and Wellbeing Conference ‘Well in your skin’ beginning on the 30th September 2011.  Information flyers and posters have been distributed to all primary schools, pre-schools and early years’ services, GP surgeries and Primary Care Teams local health centres, local libraries, family resource and community centres covering the two counties. Parents interested in getting more information on either programme can contact their local health centre or GP surgery for referral to the programmes.
Parents/Guardians are encouraged to contact the Project Coordinator Colette Quigley on 086-7307304 if they wish to take part.

How would you like your club to be part of an RTE Sports Quiz audience?
RTE is currently developing a brand new sports quiz show, Put ‘Em Under Pressure, which will air on Sunday evenings in September on RTE 1. The show itself sees two teams of famous sports stars and pundits go head-to-head in this entertaining sports quiz. Consisting of 8 episodes, the quiz show will be filmed in studio in RTE in Donnybrook from the 8th to the 11th of August in front of an audience, with an afternoon episode and evening episode each day. RTE is looking to get sports teams, clubs and supporters groups on board from right around the country to join the audience in each episode. The clubs can give their own representation through this, by wearing their club or team colours, crests, sporting attire etc. As they want a really good mix of communities from right around the country, they will also liaise with the teams and clubs in relation to transport costs to Dublin. The show is going to be entertaining and fun and will be a great day out for clubs interested. They also want a good mix of sports involved, so whether your team or group consists 5 or 50 - from football to fencing and darts to draughts - they want to hear from them all! As the show is being filmed in early August and places are limited, RTE would like to hear from teams as soon as possible who may be interested and would like more information.
