 Interested in growing your own food? The next Meeting of GIY (Grow It Yourself) Monaghan will be a visit to a food-producing private garden near Emyvale. We will be meeting there at the usual time of 7.30pm sharp on Wednesday 6th July 2011. This will be a good opportunity to see a working garden and the various types of veg. that are being grown locally. The July vegetable calendar will also be discussed. Directions are as follows: From Monaghan take the N2 northbound to Emyvale. Turn right in Emyvale at the "Maxol" garage, signposted Mullan. Proceed for 1.5 miles approx ( don't bear left at the signpost for Mullan) to the T-junction and turn right. After approx 100yards turn left. Proceed for approx 0.5 miles and it's the third house on the right, just before an old primary school. In order to cover our running costs we would like to ask for a voluntary contribution of €2 per person. This money will only be used for the running of GIY and is governed by Revenue charity rules. GIY networks aim to take the ''self'' out of ''self-sufficiency'' by getting back-garden growers together on a regular basis to talk, learn from each other and exchange tips, produce and war-stories! The meetings are open to people interested in food growing at all levels, i.e. from growing a few herbs on the balcony to complete self-sufficiency, from beginners to old hands. Hundreds of people are involved in existing GIY groups around Ireland and activities include talks on specific food-growing topics, garden visits, seed swaps, produce bartering, mentor panels and the return of the meitheal (where growers get together in one another’s gardens to carry out some growing related task).
