![]() International Gathering of Artist Blacksmiths Monaghan Town 23 - 26 of June 2011 Monaghan County Council and Monaghan Town Council in association with the Irish and British Blacksmiths Association are hosting an International gathering of Blacksmiths in Monaghan Town. This is the largest International “Forge In” Event ever held in Ireland and will be our contribution to Ireland’s Designated Year of Craft 2011. Over 200 Blacksmiths from Ireland and countries as far as Japan and the US will descend upon Monaghan Town to create a Public sculpture for the town. The title of the piece “The Hive of Knowledge” designed by Mark Keeling represents the coming together and the pooling of combined knowledge of the blacksmiths, with the common goal of creating a sculpture to celebrate the craft and provide inspiration for future generations. Over the three days Blacksmiths will set up forging stations at different locations for the purpose of creating panels for the sculpture. The idea of this is to convey to the Blacksmith community and the general public exactly what Creative Ironwork is. The aim of this festival is to promote and showcase Ireland’s leading Blacksmiths. The world’s leading and renowned Artist Blacksmiths will be there also to give demonstrations, lectures, and assist on the forging of the sculpture.
