Members of Monaghan County Council fully supported a call for more Government support for Small and Medium Enterprises at their June monthly meeting on Tuesday.
Correspondence regarding a motion passed by Castleblayney Town Council calling on the Government to put a financial aid package in place for residential mortgage holders and SME’s was issued to each member of Monaghan County Council. Speaking at Tuesday’s meeting, Fine Gael councillor Gary Carville proposed that the county council would adopt the motion from Castleblayney Town Council stating that in the current economic climate it was vital that businesses would be sustained. Cllr Carville added that it was wrong that the Government on behalf of taxpayers are putting billions of taxpayers’ money into banks yet the same Government was doing little to support SMEs. “The situation is crazy and cannot be allowed to continue. There is no NAMA for these people,” stated Cllr Carville. A letter on the issue is to be sent from Monaghan County Council to Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan.
