At Quinn's Superstore Carrickmacross  a stand-off developed  yesterday evening after the owners  attempted to stop a bank-appointed receiver from changing the locks on their business.

The store which is owned by Michael and Bridget Quinn, went into receivership on 13 January this year owing over €7.2m to AIB after which receiver Kavanagh Fennell Ltd of Ballsbridge was appointed by the bank.

The couple were reportedly told on Wednesday that the bid they put in to purchase the shop back from AIB was not successful.

At 6pm yesterday evening Mr and Mrs Quinn entered the shop and asked the receiver's representatives to leave the premises. The couple also tried to prevent locksmiths from changing the locks on the premises.

A number of Gardai were also present at the scene.quinns_superstore_2
