Hello everyone, firstly let me introduce myself 'Lorraine' and my daughter 'Jenni' together we make up The Cake and Crumb, an Irish Artisan Gluten and Wheat Free Bakery, we have also developed our own range of mixes, so that you can make some of our delicious food at home in minutes.

Each week here on Monaghanlife.ie.We will bring you a column we hope will interest you, full of  information about Coeliac disease, and also a host of delicious recipes that you can cook at home for the whole family.

We thought this week we would tell you a little about us, The Cake and Crumb as we are celebrating our 1st birthday as a business.

We came to live in Emyvale just over a year ago, having emmigrated to Australia 26 years before.  Being told in Australia that we should not eat wheat or gluten, and finding it easy to buy fresh there, we thought it would be the same here.   However sadly to say on our return home we found it was not the same, so the idea for The Cake and Crumb was born.

Our first selling venture was at the local Monaghan Farmers Market, where we have been every Friday for the last 12 months, we bring an assortment of goodies with us every week, from freshly baked bread, to a range of treats eg. fresh cream and jam sponges, coffee and walnut cakes, etc.

We now supply Flemings with our mixes and have other stores in Dundalk, and Navan stocking them as well. We also sell at Slane market 1st Sat of each month, Kells 2nd Sat of each month, and Duleek Sage and Stone last Sat of each month. We are fully accredited with The Coeliac Society of Ireland and have had all our produce independantly tested.

We have endeavoured to make our food taste as good as 'the real thing' so eveyone can benefit from eating free from and won an award at The Taste of Monaghan 2010. for our madeira cake.
