The All Style American Championship Tractor Pull will take place in Clady, Co.Armagh on Sunday 29th May. The contest will coincide with a fun filled extravaganza for all the family, including Big O’s Country Show and the Five FM Live Broadcast, side shows, exhibitions, stalls music and much more.

The magnificent contest will showcase Ireland’s most varied range of super-powered tractors and the participants include some of the most seasoned veterans of tractor pulling – making the show a ‘must-see’ event. One such tractor pulling legend includes local Ballybay lady driver May Gill, pulling her aptly named tractor ‘Tomboy’, who has competed in tractor pulling in Holland. Other competitors who will make an appearance include ‘Nutfield’, ‘Sodbuster’ and ‘Pride of Wicklow’ – a 600 horse power Ursus with a Deutz V10 Turbo engine.

“We are extremely excited that the Irish Tractor Pulling Association is bringing their renowned tractors from all over Ireland to pull in their championship in Clady. It is an ambitious event for such a small rural community and the spectacle will certainly add to the festival atmosphere we are trying to create for the day”, says Mickey Savage, Chairman of Clady Committee, who are organising the event.

Tractor pulling is known as the world’s most powerful motorsport, due to the multi-engined modified tractor pullers. The sport is the struggle between the Tractor and the Sled. This is a trailer, with wheels at the end and a flat steel plate on the front. The carriage (which sits on a track and can be moved forward hydraulically), is loaded with steel weights.

The object is to drag the sled as far up the track as possible. The difficulty is that along the track, the sledge becomes heavier, digging into the ground. The goal for the driver is to use a combination of good starting gear choice and balance to that the track can be finished – called a ‘full pull’.

In conjunction with the super spectacle event, Clady will have organised a local tractor pulling competition, with different weight classes, which will no doubt show who in the local area who has got the most ‘pulling-power’!

In keeping with the traditional country theme of the day, Big O will be broadcasting his country show live from Clady with the Five FM team. The event will also feature agricultural exhibitors and stalls, side shows, fine food and more.
