“There were waves at Monaghan Leisure Centre last Sunday at the Monaghan Sub Aqua Clubs Annual FREE “Try A Dive.”

They welcomed over 40 persons into the pool to try out specialist diving equipment and get a small insight to what scuba diving feels

like. The Club welcome new members every year and last Sunday they certainly have a few new hopeful divers ready to learn how to

take the plunge into Irish Waters.

Monaghan Sub Aqua is one of the oldest clubs in the area. Our divers are trained to the highest standards which has worldwide

recognition. We are very much a Family orientated organisation, we have 3 generations of divers in one family within our club, and

glad to say the Grandparents in this family are still active divers with us! Many of our members encourage their Children to participate

in snorkelling lessons with us, with all the family involved it makes for a great fun day out for very little cost.

Monaghan Sub Aqua Club dive most weekends off the coast of Donegal and Sligo. The West Coast of Ireland is noted all over the

world for its diving. There are lots of fish to see, as well as crabs, lobster, and lots more. We arrange fun packed weekends away

during summer periods and also arrange group trips abroad.sub_aqua_2

As well as a diving Hobby, many of our members are involved in Monaghan Sub Aqua Search & Recovery Unit. The unit is the only

Search & Recovery Unit which covers Monaghan and Cavan, Often called upon by the Gardai and indeed the PSNI,to attend searches

in Lakes and rivers for missing persons. While we encourage our members to join the Search & Recovery unit it is completely

voluntary, and its not for everyone. All personal equipment is funded by the divers themselves while boats and specialist equipment

are funded by charity fund raisers, bucket collections and flag days; if you see our crew out collecting please give what you can.

Thanks to the Generosity of the people of Co. Monaghan and the National Lottery we have managed to complete Phase 1 of our

Regional Training Facility in Castleblayney; we are currently fund raising for Phase 2 which will include Training Rooms and a meeting

room. The Search & Recovery Unit gladly welcome any sponsorship, donations and assistance that you can provide to complete this

much needed facility.
