Blayney Academy Football Club has had a sensational period of success this week by gaining a new long term sponsor, winning their first major trophy and hosting an overwhelmingly successful quiz night.

The week started with local international company "Cargill Cares" sponsoring the highly effective "Player Development Pathway" which has been developed by the club to ensure best practise technical coaching to all of the players in the club from aged 4 to senior level. This is seen as the main stay of the club and as "Bernie O Flaherty from "Cargill Cares" stated: "both parties show innovative thinking and a loyalty to community development which we like Blayney Academy take very seriously". The sponsorship will help increase the club capacity to give more to all children of all ages and increase the 150 current members.
On Saturday the u16 team won the Championship final 2-1 against a talented Cavan Celtic team in Coothill. The team is made up of players from all the surrounding areas of Castleblayney including players from the town itself. This was evident in the massive support that attended the game to cheer on the new local soccer hero's. The team played at a high tempo throughout and encouraged each other on the field. All players got to play and team captain Niall Mc Cann said " this is one of my proudest moments, there was no football in Blayney for my age until "The Academy" started and we hope to bring more silverware to Blayney in the coming years"
A major thanks must also go to all those who helped out, sponsored prizes and attended our first quiz night which was held in the beautiful surroundings of Dignams Bar. Over 120 people took part on the night. A fun time was had by all with music, picture and sports rounds including a display of club strength by push up experts Cathel O Flaherty and Kevin Mc Manus.
" It was an amazing few days for the club with the May parade, quiz's, u13 semi final, u16 final and major investment from a progressive company. We just couldn't ask for more.." stated Club Secretary Garry Nicholl.
The club now looks forward to the major end of season awards night and to the up coming u8 and u10 leagues. New players are always welcome to this community club.
