Monaghan Tidy Towns National Spring Clean effort last weekend was a major success with volunteers covering Latlurcan, the Dublin Road, the old Armagh Road, Monaghan Town Bypass, the N2 at Coolshannagh with other teams focusing on residential areas. Committee secretary Emer Brennan said that the continued focus on the bypass was yielding results.
“The committee would like to thank everyone who came out to help. We really appreciate the effort, especially on a bank holiday weekend. Overall we collected over 50 bags of litter, however, this time the amount of rubbish collected on the bypass was again reduced. Hopefully, keeping it as clean as possible discourages people from throwing litter out of cars. On our first clean up this year it took thirteen people almost three hours to clean the length of the bypass, this time two volunteers managed it in little over an hour. I think we can call that progress!” she said.
“Although we will continue to keep an eye on the northern side of the town, we hope to concentrate on other parts of the town next time out,” she continued.
“The committee would like to thank all those who have been so supportive and encouraging of their efforts so far this year. A lot of credit has to go to the litter wardens and the town council’s efforts. We are definitely going in the right direction. Every clean up we organise brings out a few more volunteers and last weekends great success was the huge number of young people and children involved. This bodes well for the future,” Miss Brennan said.
