The towns annual May Day Parade which took place yesterday Monday 2nd May was deemed ''a huge success''. The sun shone down on the large gathering of spectators and participants who brought the border town to a standstill.

The organisers of the event Castleblayney Chamber of Commerce were honoured to have Liam McGrath as the Grand Marshall on the day. Liam McGrath was presented with a Very Special “Honour Award” on the day by President of the Chamber of Commerce Patrick Mc Fadden.

Amongst the dignitaries’ on the viewing stand were members of the Oireachtas including Senator Francie O’Brien, Heather Humphries TD, Jackie Crowe (Mayor of Co. Monaghan), Liam McGrath (Grand Marshall), Caoimhe Daly (2011 Monaghan Rose)& David Funcheon (Town Mayor).

There was a colourful array of floats, represented by various local organisations, community groups, including voluntary sector, local schools and public services. With a huge turn out of marvellous marching bands. All of which added to the carnival atmosphere on the day.

At the conclusion of the parade the main street remained closed as popular local band “The Fuzzy Burgers” played on the Gig Rig before a mass crowd of followers and spectators who stayed on to enjoy the music and May Sunshine.

As stated the May Day Parade is organised by Castleblayney Chamber of Commerce well done to them and all their helpers for an enjoyable day in Castleblayney
