This news has been welcomed by local Fianna Fáil TD Margaret Conlon who said that it is important that the Government continues to prioritise investment in schools and education. “It is vital, despite the constraints on the public finances that we continue to invest in schools. Creating a positive physical environment for pupils helps to enhance their learning.” The annual scheme involves a variety of works, including repairs and refurbishment of roofs and toilets, electrical and mechanical work and improvements to the external environment of the school. Almost €579 million in total will be invested in school building infrastructure under the school building and modernisation programme. “Students and teachers can look forward to returning to these schools in September with the works completed,” Deputy Conlon added. Local schools that are benefiting from the work will soon be contacted by the Department with details on how to proceed.
The chosen schools are listed below.
