Six Monaghan students have won top prizes in this year’s 57th Texaco Children’s Art Competition. In Category E (7-8 years), the first prize of EUR200 was won by 7-year old Kerry Grimes from Scoil Naomh Éanna, Carrickmacross for a work entitled 'Flower Power’. Other Monaghan winners, all of whom won Special Merit Awards, were Michael Fryzlewicz (18) from St. Macartan’s College, Monaghan; Ryan Ingram (14) and David Wacks (14), both from Ballybay Community College; Saoirse McMahon (6) from Scoil Naomh Éanna, Carrickmacross and Jessica McCartney (12) from St. Brigid’s School, Carrickmacross. A total of 278 students from Co. Monaghan entered paintings in the Competition. Prizes will be presented at a ceremony that takes place in Dublin on 25th May at which all 161 top prizewinners will be in attendance.
