The development aid agency, Bóthar, are staging a 32 county cycle fundraising event this July. A core group of participants will complete the 560 mile route over seven stages from July 17th to July 23rd. The event, which starts in Portumna, Co. Galway and finishes in Co. Clare,  is set to raise much needed funds for the charity that specialises in the use of livestock (most notable dairy heifers) in its programmes overseas.

In addition to the main core group, each day participants are invited to complete the stage in their region. The stage that includes County Monaghan will take place on Wednesday 20th July and runs from Portadown to Navan. The charity is issuing a special appeal to Monaghan Cyclists to sign up for the event on that day. Any individual or cycling club who might like to get involved should contact Bóthar on 071 9120100 or at events@bothar.ie for further details and sponsorship cards.

The event is organised to suit keen leisure cyclists and is expected to run at and average speed of 18 km/h. According to event spokesperson, Pat McCarrick “this event will suit the well established leisure cyclists or the keen beginner. We provide training guidelines and give every support with fundraising. Bóthar is making a special appeal to local cyclists at a time when help is still much needed for developing world families living in poverty”.

See every county in Ireland, create and maintain fitness, meet new friends and support a great cause all at the same time; cycle for Bóthar. For anyone who might like to complete all 7 days of the event, some places still remain in the core group. Contact Bóthar on 071 9120100 or at events@bothar.ie for further details.
