Secret Beauty Weapon: Vaseline

Vaseline was created by chemist Robert Cheesebrough after observing factory workers using rod wax to moisturise their skin. He noticed that as well as having moisturising properties it sped up healing time for minor cuts and grazes, so he began concocting batches of products all containing the key ingredient petroleum jelly. He stored the original batches in vases which is where the vase in Vaseline originates.

Everyone has a tub of Vaseline lying around at home and although they’re usually neglected it’s an incredibly versatile beauty product.

Soften Feet

Vaseline is great for rough and calloused feet. To soften feet soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes then rub the rough areas of skin with a pumice stone. Afterwards rub Vaseline into any dry or rough areas and put on a thick pair of socks to keep in all the moisture. For best results do this before bed time.

Moisturise lips

Vaseline is a very versatile lip protector. Its natural shine means it works as a lip gloss, it can be applied under or over lipstick.

For Dry Hair

Vaseline is very effective as a styling gel for dry hair. It’s quite oily so you only need a small amount. Dab a little Vaseline onto your fingers and style your hair normally. It will hold the style and leave your hair looking nourished too.

Tidy Eyebrows

If you find your eyebrows stray or tend to jut out apply a tiny bit of Vaseline to them, either with your finger or an eyebrow brush to hold them in place.

Remove Eye Makeup

In a pinch Vaseline can be used to remove eye make up. Use the smallest amount on a cloth or towel and gently rub over the top of your eye area. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water.

For a Dazzling Smile

It’s an old beauty pageant secret that really does work. Rubbing a small amount of Vaseline on your front teeth and gums will make them glisten
