Oatmeal Milk Bath Recipe

By Jane Ward

Oats are a fantastic source of calcium, potassium, magnesium and complex B Vitamins. As well as being nutritionally beneficial the vitamins and minerals in oats are also great for the skin, encouraging natural hydration and boosting collagen production. This is why more and more moisturisers are now using oat-based ingredients.

This really easy recipe will make a milky bath soak that can help leave your skin feeling nourished and renewed. Cleopatra was famous for her milk baths, and it seems that she was on to something good.

What you’ll need:
½ a cup of finely ground oatmeal

A cup of corn starch

2 cups of milk powder

½ a cup of baking soda (you’ll need a bit more in hard-water areas)

Making the Bath Soak

Blend the oatmeal in a food processor until it becomes finely ground. Add in the milk powder and process it further, until it is well mixed.

Pour the mixture into a bowl and add the corn starch and baking soda, thoroughly mixing all ingredients together.

Using the Bath Soak

Add three tablespoons to your next bath to help soothe and soften your skin. If you find it’s not dissolving you can put some of the mixture into a permeable fabric container such as the foot of a pair of tights and tie one end.

Finishing Touches

If you wish to add fragrance to the mixture grind herbs in a pestle and mortar and stir into the powder/ Dried rose petals, lavender, rosemary and/or a few drops of essential oils work well.
