MAJOR DEVELOPMENT CREATES EXTRA BEDS AT VIRGINIA NURSING HOME
Major development work has been completed at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Virginia which involved the construction of a new wing housing an extra eight new beds with ensuite facilities, and refurbishment work in the original building.
As a result, the number of residents that St. Joseph’s can now accommodate has been increased to 52 persons with bed accommodation being provided in twin and single rooms. Of these, fourteen beds are available for immediate occupation, eight of which are in the new wing.
In addition to the increase in numbers that can be accommodated, the new wing at St. Joseph’s provides additional facilities that include new day rooms, washrooms, management offices and staff locker room. Other services available for residents include social activities, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, entertainment and hairdressing.
Last July, HIQA. the Health Information and Quality Authority, certified St. Joseph’s as a registered facility that complies with all of the requirements set down in Section 50 of the Health Act 2007.
Situated in private grounds on the Oldcastle Road about one mile from Virginia, St. Joseph’s enjoys scenic views over Lough Ramor and the surrounding countryside. Owned and operated by Masonic Havens Limited, one of the charitable arms of the Irish Freemasons, it has existed as a nursing home for over 10 years. Traditionally, St. Joseph’s enjoyed exceptionally high occupancy in the order of 98 percent – a figure that has reduced somewhat recently due to Ireland’s recessionary times and the level of state support that is available for nursing home care.
Later in November, on a date yet to be announced, an officially opening ceremony is planned to mark completion of the development to which local representatives and health officials will be invited to attend.
Commenting, Mr. David Young, Chairman of the Board of Governors said “the work undertaken has made St. Joseph’s one of the most modern and well-equipped facilities of its kind in the region where all residents are considered as guests who experience dignity and respect in our care.”
“Having at least two fully qualified nursing staff on duty at all times, together with support care staff, and with resident care plans being regularly monitored by a qualified doctor who is a member of the Board of Governors, St. Joseph’s reputation as a warm, caring and friendly nursing home is assured” Mr. Young added.
