| IFA Rural Development Chairman Seamus Traynor has called for the immediate payment of the interest due to farmers whose Farm Waste Management payments were held up over the past two years. Mr Traynor said with the final 20% grant now paid to all 17,400 farmers, there was no reason why the interest payment should not be made, to bring to a conclusion the delayed payment system which farmers were forced to endure since early 2009. He said IFA analysis shows that farmers paid an average of 3.5% interest on the delayed amount over the two-year period. This must be reflected in the interest payment now due and paid out without any further delay. Seamus Traynor called on the Minister for Agriculture to honour the commitment to pay the interest of 3.5% to all farmers now that the final 20% of grant aid has been made. |
