LACK OF WINTER ADDITIVE IN FUEL ADDING TO PROBLEMS ON FARMS

Many farmers are encountering further disruption to work during the adverse
weather conditions as the fuel on tractors and other equipment freezes up.

IFA environment Chairman Pat Farrell has said “farmers must be very vigilant
during this cold spell and ensure that winter additive has been added to
fuel. The consequences of frozen tanks in tractors and other machinery would
be very expensive and add to the stress associated with the heavy snowfall.”

He urged farmers who experience a problem with their fuel to contact their
supplier.

“Many fuel companies have only recently added the winter additive to fuel.
Fuel companies need to ensure that fuel distributed in the late summer
months has the winter additive,” he concluded.
