| Following the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union that the Regulation which governs the publication of CAP payments to farmers is invalid, IFA Deputy President Eddie Downey said the ruling of the Court confirms the IFA’s strongly-held view that publication of payment details to individuals was a step too far and was a breach of confidentiality. The Court found that for individuals benefiting from aid under the CAP, it does not appear that the EU Council and the EU Commission sought to strike a proportionate balance between the protection of the personal data of individual farmers and the publication of information. Mr Downey called on the Minister for Agriculture Brendan Smith to take immediate action in order that Ireland complies with this ruling of the Court of Justice. HUGE SAVINGS IN ELECTRICITY COSTS FOR FARM FAMILIES IFA have negotiated a new market leading electricity deal offering up to 14% savings on farm and household electricity costs. Irish Farm families who have opted to switch will collectively save up to €10 million in on their electricity costs this year. IFA members have been switching in large numbers to take advantage of the exclusive IFA Member Services/Bord Gais partnership deal, which is the best deal on the market. IFA Member Services Chairman JJ Kavanagh said “Given the current economic climate, farmers need to seriously reduce their input costs and the IFA Member Services/Bord Gais electricity deal provides a real opportunity to do so. IFA members can now avail of hundreds of euros of savings on their electricity bills compared to regulated ESB unit rates.” Mr Kavanagh concluded by encouraging all farmers to take action and make the switch to avail of these huge savings.
