IFA President John Bryan said the untimely passing of the Chairman of Sligo
IFA Billy Somerville had come as a great shock.

“On behalf of the Association, I want to offer my condolences to his wife
Barbara and his children David and Isabel.”

In paying tribute to Billy, John Bryan said, “Billy Somerville was one of
nature’s true gentleman. He had a long history of active involvement in IFA,
working selflessly to advance the interests of farmers in Sligo. He was a
model dairy and beef farmer who specialised in the rearing of the rare breed
Dexter cattle.”

“Billy epitomised the voluntary ethic of IFA and dedicated his efforts to
helping fellow farmers through his participation at branch level, at County
Executive and at national level on the Executive Council.”

The IFA President said that Billy would be sadly missed by his family and
all those within IFA who had known him.
