| Speaking at the Farm Safety Conference in Athy IFA President John Bryan has urged farmers to maintain a year-round, high level of vigilance on farm safety to minimise the risk of accidents. He said, “now that much of the harvesting has been done and the school holidays are coming to a close, the temptation may be to reduce the attention given to farm safety
. As we know from past experience, accidents can occur at any time due to a combination of factors. Farmers should continue to examine their Farm Safety Statement and carry out any updates that are needed.” “Farmers have embraced technology in many facets of their work and I would encourage them to avail of the online facility, which allows them to check their Farm Safety Statement. My advice to farmers is to prioritise health and safety as it is one of the most important aspects of their work,” he said. Mr Bryan said that as part of the IFA’s campaign to promote farm safety, time is dedicated at the beginning of each of IFA’s 29 County Executive to discussing farm safety. This has proved a very successful initiative and has encouraged many debates and ideas to improve farm safety. “Unfortunately, the record this year shows an increase in farm fatalities, and that total has been added to as recently as yesterday. I wish to extend my condolences to the family and stress how important it is for all farm families to keep the focus on farm safety,” he concluded. |
