REOPENING OF POULTRY SCHEME MUST BE FOLLOWED BY OTHER TAMS SCHEMES

IFA President John Bryan has welcomed the re-opening of the Poultry Welfare Scheme by the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney, but said the four other TAMS measures that were closed in early June must also be re-opened.

John Bryan said the Pig Welfare, Dairy Equipment, Sheep Handling & Fencing and Water Harvesting schemes must also allow new applicants.

Mr Bryan pointed out that 50% EU funding is available to all these schemes up to 2013.  These schemes generate on-farm investment, which has a significant economic spin off to the agricultural sector and the wider rural economy.
