COMPENSATION FOR VEGETABLE PRODUCERS
Friday, 10 June 2011 15:35

Chairman of IFA’s Field Vegetable and Protected Crops Committee Matt Foley
said the announcement from the emergency EU Council of Agriculture Ministers
meeting in Brussels yesterday to provide withdrawal compensation for
cucumbers, tomato, salads, courgettes and peppers affected by the E. Coli
outbreak was a positive result for producers.

Mr Foley said that a small number of growers in Ireland were directly
affected by the outbreak and it is advisable for these growers who have been
affected to make contact with the Department of Agriculture and have their
damage assessed.

Mr Foley said that the IFA will be meeting with the Department on the
details of the measure at the earliest possible opportunity.
