| Monaghan IFA Sheep Chairman Eamon Markey said the lamb trade remains very strong with spring lamb prices of €7/kg up to carcase weights of 22kgs in places. Hogget’s are making €6.20/kg. Eamon Markey said there is very strong demand with the weekly kill, as high as 39,000 head, up almost 7,000 on last year’s levels. He said this is a reflection of the strength of both the domestic and export market demand. Eamon Markey said producers should carefully select lambs for sale and negotiate strongly on both price and weight limits. He said in the current market environment and with the options open to sellers, farmers were in a strong negotiating position. |
