A presentation was given at the April meeting of Monaghan IFA County
Executive by the Health & Safety Authority Inspector Catherina Glancy who
informed the members of the importance of child, tractor, machinery
including chainsaw safety.  Also the importance to be aware of risks such as
PTO's, loose gates, to secure slurry lagoons, tanks, wells, drains, soak
pits and water tanks to prevent drowning and to be aware of potentially
dangerous animals and fit correct fencing gates to minimise the danger.
There is no such thing as a safe bull and always process with caution.
Catherina continued and said the Health & Safety Authority were there to
help and more information including a check list were available on their
website www.hsa.ie.

Mr. Colm Smith, FBD Insurance outlined what was required from the Insurance
& Awareness side and encouraged all to eliminate as many risks as possible
to ensure we all work safely on our farms.
