'Four superb performers who have the unique ability to make their audience an integral and important of the show'. The popular Sands Family are set to return to Íontas on Saturday, 31 Born, bred and based in Co Down, The Sands Family have been singing and playing music for as long as they can remember. Growing up on a small farm in the townland of Ryan, near the village of Mayobridge, a few miles from the town of Newry their parents, Mick and Bridie, both came from families of singers, musicians and storytellers and encouraged a love of Irish culture and tradition in their seven children. For the August bank holiday weekend the Sands make their way from Germany, Australia, Turkey, the USA or wherever they happen to be and head back to Rostrevor to be together for almost the only time in the year. For the past few years, Castleblayney has been lucky enough to catch them and ‘cage’ them long enough to come to Íontas with their very special and unique brand of song, music and fun. Their performance is a cultural experience: a chance to enjoy and share in the craic with four superb performers who have the unique ability to make their audience an integral and important part of the show. This is the feel-good factor to the power of four. Admission is €20/18. Telephone Íontas on (042) 9753400/01 or check out the website www.iontascastleblayney.ie.
